Our beloved Flathead Lake is special, for myriad reasons! Flathead Lake is one of the cleanest large lakes on the planet. For as long as time, our lake has been a source of nourishment and sustenance of body, mind and spirit. From being a site of so many memories of time spent with family and friends, to the recreational enjoyment we gain from time spent on or in the water, to the ever-changing play of color and light, Flathead Lake calls to so many people all over the world. It is also a primary driver of our regional economy. Because Flathead Lake offers so much to so many, we all need to do our part to help sustain it.

The Flathead Lake Biological Station has been standing watch as Sentinel of the Lake since our founding in 1899. Our world-renowned scientific monitoring program has been ensuring Flathead Lake is healthy, clean, and blue since 1977. And our data shows that Flathead Lake is as clear today as it was back then. This makes Flathead Lake very special, as this is not the case for most of the lakes in the world.
